I use a bandage called Derm Shield for healing for your new tattoo! This is a bandage that you will leave on for 5-7 days.
Over the course of the first 2-3 days you’ll notice that you bleed and ooze into this bandage. It may appear that the tattoo is smudging or smearing. I assure you that its part of the process. The goo inside the bandage is everything that would normally scab when exposed to the open air. It’s your blood and plasma mixed with excess ink. As long as that liquid stays trapped in the bandage it is safe! You should only take the bandage off early if you experience an allergic reaction to it, or if the bandage has peeled exposing the tattoo/anything oozes out of the bandage.
Please don’t apply lotion to the top of the bandage.
The Derm Shield is water resistant, so you are more than allowed to shower with it on, however don‘t let it sit submerged underwater and make sure to avoid the direct stream of water when in the shower.
When it’s time to remove your bandage I recommend doing so in the shower, at the end of your shower. This bandage is a medical grade adhesive, so it is extremely sticky, please peel it away from your skin slowly. DO NOT rip it off like a band-aid, it can damage your skin or your new tattoo!!
When you have the bandage removed, wash it with your fingertips gently, using a liquid, anti-bacterial, unscented soap. Not your normal body wash.
Once washed, gently pat it dry with a fresh clean towel, and apply a small amount of an unscented water based lotion. Only enough to moisturize the area, you don’t want it to be greasy or globby.
You can use the lotion 2-3 times a day until the tattoo is fully healed. This process takes roughly 3-4 weeks!!
PLEASE DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH OR SCRUB AT YOUR TATTOO!!!
no sunscreen until it is healed. No hot tub, bath tub, or swimming pool until it is healed.
